MARY PINSENT
Mary comes from
a family that arrived in South Australia in the 1830's and after spending
many years in England and Jamaica, she came to live in the Bellinger
Valley.
Her natural love
of horses naturally led her into breeding and training them on her farm
in Thora and she is well known and respected in the area through this
activity.
However it is
as a sculptor that she has made her reputation. Through her sensitive
studies of horses, she has become nationally and internationally known
and can be said to be one of Australias' foremost creators of 'animalier'
sculpture.
In particular,
her creations of Australian working horses, show horses and racing thoroughbreds
are a magnificent tribute to the past and present role of this animal
throughout the whole of the Australian continent.
Any and all lovers
of horses will recognise the very special realism and fine detail achieved
by Mary in every one of her horse creations.
